Sands School is a small independent secondary day school located in the town of Ashburton in the southern edge of the Dartmoor National Park in Devon. We offer genuinely child-centred teaching in small classes within a democratic ethos that fosters trust, mutual respect and self-directed learning.
We are seeking an experienced HLTA to work on a 1:1 basis with 2 students with SEND needs. The successful candidate will work with the SEND and teaching teams to provide the support outlined in the EHCPs. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a small school delivering truly personalised support, as well as to join a unique school community.
The successful candidate will:
1. Have experience of supporting learners with a variety of SEND needs including anxiety based issues
2. Be able to develop a rapport with students and be prepared to negotiate individualised styles of learning and support
3. Be able to take responsibility for planning, organising and resourcing 1-to-1 support
4. Have excellent communications skills and be able to work collaboratively with the students, their parents and their teachers
As well as the supporting the needs outlined in the EHCPs you will have the general responsibilities of an HLTA and will be expected to regularly teach on a one-to-one basis, contribute to reports, work alongside the class teachers and cover lessons where necessary.
As well as being a responsible adult in the school you will be a part of the school community and will be expected to engage with and support all our students and to participate in the democratic running of the school through the weekly school meetings.
