Job Title: Senior Specifications Technologist
Due to growth and new business, The Cake Crew is seeking a Senior Specifications Technologist to join their expanding technical team. This is a hybrid role with an option to work up to 3 days on site and two days from home following a probationary/training period, or totally site-based if preferred.
The purpose of the role is to complete retailer, customer, and own brand specifications, including: Sainsbury's, Tesco, Co-op, Aldi, Morrisons, ASDA, Lidl, Premier (Hamilton Grant), The Cake Crew, and others as required. The role also involves management and administration of retailer systems and supporting team members.
The ideal candidate will be a well-organized individual able to use their initiative to meet tight deadlines, working both as part of a team and independently. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for internal team interactions and external communications with retailers and third parties. Full IT literacy in the Microsoft Office suite is required.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Writing and completing finished product specifications for retailers, customers, and own brand products.
2. Supplier specification approval and onboarding.
3. Understanding of primary account requirements, including retailer/customer codes of practice and standards.
4. Supporting specification completion for other accounts as needed, including holiday cover and higher volume periods.
5. Managing critical path tasks for primary accounts.
6. Ensuring specifications meet high standards, are right first time, and meet KPIs.
7. Managing and administering retailer systems, including specifications and artwork systems, and communicating notifications internally.
8. Generating pack copies for own brand specifications, including sub and legal name generation.
9. Reviewing and approving artwork, liaising with third parties and retailers/customers, and coordinating with artwork and print houses.
10. Supporting NPD with nutritional calculations and submission forms as part of the product development process.
11. Cross-checking factory paperwork, recipes, and specifications to ensure accuracy.
12. Performing specification cross checks before submission to ensure completeness and correctness.
13. Reviewing and approving product photos and information in Brandbank before product launch.
14. Participating in pre- and post-launch reviews.
15. Basic understanding of Brexit requirements and ability to calculate related codes.
16. Attending NPD and other relevant meetings.
17. Supporting additional projects such as packaging matrix and product information review.
18. Supporting raw material approval processes and risk assessments as needed.
19. Understanding of BRC and retailer audit requirements.
20. Awareness of relevant legislation and regulations.
21. Completing internal audits and other reasonable business requirements.
22. Assisting in training and developing other specification writers.
