Job Description:
As an Underwriting Operations Manager, you will lead and mentor a team, overseeing guidelines and procedures, monitoring performance, ensuring compliance and best practices to achieve strategic goals. The role may also include underwriting a limited number of cases to provide cover during periods of colleague absences or high workload. The aim is to develop a high-performing team that makes sound underwriting decisions and delivers excellent customer service.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading, motivating, and managing the Underwriting Team through 1-2-1s, skills gap analyses, appraisals, training, and coaching to improve performance and develop colleagues.
* Implementing an effective case management process that ensures adherence to policies and procedures and provides a best-in-class service.
* Ensuring all active cases are proactively managed throughout the customer journey and providing live reports to management on pipeline and funding status in line with company targets.
* Reporting on the performance of the pre-funding team by tracking key performance metrics to celebrate success or identify areas for improvement.
* Ensuring team adherence to company policies and procedures and proactively managing case pipelines efficiently to meet SLAs, applying sound judgment and thorough analysis for underwriting decisions that protect financial stability.
* Identifying opportunities for process improvements, flagging bottlenecks, delays, or inefficiencies to enhance processing activities.
* Maintaining a strong understanding of mortgage lending to ensure the company remains competitive and compliant.

Essential
* Underwriting experience
* Strong people leadership skills
* Experience in managing, supporting, mentoring, and recruiting a team to provide exceptional customer service
* Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
* Strategic planning skills to determine resource requirements and implement effective team structures
* Strong relationship management skills
