Overview

SLRs Process Safety team offers a diverse range of process safety, engineering and management consultancy advice across the industrial, chemical manufacturing and associated sectors. Centered around our Manchester office, we are growing and developing our business and seek to appoint an Associate Grade Process Safety Consultant with site experience in process safety.

The successful candidate will participate in and manage a range of client and internal projects focused on improving the design, operation and maintenance of hazardous processing facilities on client sites. The role is suited to a chemical or process engineer with demonstrable experience in chemical-based manufacturing installations and an interest in applying and expanding knowledge in process safety across a wider range of sectors. Training and development aligned with CPD requirements will support chartership of the relevant professional body.


Responsibilities

* Work on several projects simultaneously (individually and as part of a team) across a range of high hazard sites, including chemical manufacturing, onshore bulk storage facilities and warehousing, across sectors such as chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, explosives, waste to energy, and hydrogen-related energy decarbonisation activities.
* Role may be based at any SLR UK office but will involve client site work across the UK and potentially UK-wide assignments from a day to a week or longer.
* Develop process engineering standards, manuals, methodologies, workflows, procedures and enabling tools and systems for clients.
* Conduct audits and authoritative reviews of client-site practices to confirm alignment with documented procedures.
* Interface with relevant functional groups (site management, engineering, operations, health and safety) and lead or conduct studies to manage process safety risks; perform on-site surveys to ensure documentation is complete and accurate, producing as-built documents where appropriate.
* Perform hazard identification and risk assessment studies (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA).
* Provide process engineering expertise in support of engineering and EHS studies, design reviews and projects.
* Deliver consultancy work related to DSEAR.
* Contribute to client sustainability and growth by identifying cost-effective solutions.
* Ensure client needs and expectations are met in relation to quality, cost and delivery.
* Deliver projects to deadlines and budgets; deliver agreed strategic development projects.


Additional Duties / Areas For Development

* Preparation of COMAH Safety Reports and preparation of [semi-]quantitative risk assessments.
* Predictive submissions under COMAH regulations, including representative set development/validation.
* Occupied Buildings Risk Assessment (OBRA), including Toxic Refuge Siting/Condition Reviews; standalone consequence modelling studies and development/implementation of spreadsheet-based models where required.
* Use existing methodologies to provide bespoke offerings, such as ALARP workshops, Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA).

About You

If you are interested, we would love to hear from you. To undertake the role successfully, you would be able to demonstrate the following:

* A degree in Chemical or Process Engineering and demonstrable experience within the chemical manufacturing industry (including design principles, process and standards for process plant) with strong knowledge of UK legislation in this sector (e.g. COMAH, DSEAR and related codes/standards).
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
* Team player with the ability to develop good working relationships and contribute constructively in a multi-disciplinary team.
* A high degree of personal integrity and sound judgement.
