BBC Learning English is the award-winning, English language teaching arm of the BBC World Service. The department creates digital content for English language learners on web, apps and social media, and via podcasts. The team aims to broaden reach to Mandarin-speaking audiences and younger, underserved audiences, including China partners.

Salary: £27,600 - £37,050 (plus London Weighting) depending on skills, knowledge and experience. Flexible working available; discuss during offer stage.
Responsibilities
* Originate English language teaching content and adapt existing content for web and app platforms (image, text, video, audio, interactive elements). Present and support others in presenting video, audio, and live streaming as required.
* Write and teach grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and related ELT content for Chinese and global audiences; ensure educational and journalistic accuracy of all materials you produce.
* Be involved in all production stages from idea scoping to providing guidance and feedback, completing administrative tasks, and delivering content on time and to specification.
* Source contributors, interviewees, language learners and experts; develop editorial and educational strategies to address challenges.
* Ensure content complies with BBC Editorial guidelines and all legal, contractual and copyright requirements; escalate issues when in doubt.
* Monitor growth of Learning English sites and related ELT platforms; analyse usage patterns and identify opportunities to expand reach and engagement.
* Direct a Journalism Coordinator in preparing programme material for which the role is responsible.
Skills and Experience
* Proficiency in Mandarin (simplified) at a professional level in all forms is essential.
* Excellent command of English with strong translation skills between Mandarin and English.
* Recent experience creating and delivering English language teaching materials for Mandarin-speaking learners in school settings and for self-study via media platforms.
* Strong interest in digital production and content development for English language teaching.
* Experience creating ELT content for Chinese social media platforms.
* Strong technical skills in image and video editing using Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.
