We are expanding and recruiting a Materials Engineer to join our team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with the Materials & Processes Laboratory team based in Gloucester. The team provides expertise on a wide range of materials and processes, supporting various internal customers. Collaborating with other Materials & Processes Laboratories within Safran Landing Systems worldwide, you will mainly monitor the supply chain for landing gear parts, with opportunities to engage in mechanical testing and forensic investigations of landing gear components.
Key Responsibilities include:
1. Involvement in laboratory tasks related to raw material suppliers, forgers, and foundries
2. Reviewing metallic supplier performance, production data, and historical records
3. Implementing improvement plans within the SLS supply base for steel, aluminium, and titanium materials
4. Conducting technical audits of suppliers with the support of the Quality Assurance department
5. Supporting the qualification of new raw material suppliers, such as steel mills
6. Assisting the internal Materials Validation Board (MVB)
7. Supporting engineering and internal customers on materials-related topics
8. Participating in laboratory testing campaigns for metallic materials, surface treatments, and non-metallic materials
9. Engaging in forensic investigations of landing gear parts

Minimum Qualifications:
* A degree in metallurgy or materials engineering/science
* Experience in a materials laboratory, preferably in aerospace
* Extensive metallurgy knowledge, especially steels, titanium, and aluminium alloys
* Experience in supply chain monitoring related to metal forging and melting
* Proficiency with data processing software
* Ability to interpret material and process specifications
* Hands-on experience with metallography, microscopy, and materials testing
* Strong technical report writing skills
* Effective communication skills for internal and supply chain interactions
* Understanding of landing gear manufacturing processes
* Flexibility to visit suppliers multiple times annually
The successful candidate must pass military clearance. Desirable skills include knowledge of surface treatments, failure mechanisms, aerospace supplier experience, and French language proficiency.
