Our client based in Ross-shire is a leader within the manufacturing and energy sector.
Currently looking for a proactive and skilled Service Engineer to join their team, delivering energy solutions to their clients across Scotland. In this field-based role, you'll play a key part in supporting and maintaining industrial biomass steam boiler systems, ensuring they operate at peak performance, efficiency, and reliability.
This is a mobile role requiring regular travel to client sites—primarily in the Scottish Highlands and Islands—with overnight stays as needed. You'll be part of a collaborative team that values flexibility, initiative, and delivering exceptional service. While the core responsibilities are outlined below, a team-oriented mindset where everyone pitches in is required.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct planned preventative and corrective maintenance on biomass boiler systems
2. Respond swiftly to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime
3. Perform routine servicing, inspections, and fault diagnostics on mechanical and electrical plant, equipment, and instrumentation
4. Manage stock and parts inventory for maintenance activities
5. Accurately record maintenance tasks and schedules using the company's CMMS
6. Complete clear and concise site visit reports
7. Provide feedback to client engineering teams on system performance and required follow-up actions
8. Induct and supervise specialist subcontractors, ensuring adherence to site procedures and standards
9. Maintain site compliance with contract KPIs and H&S/environmental regulations
10. Conduct risk assessments and write method statements for work activities
11. Ensure proper work authorisations are in place for all tasks, including third-party contracts
12. Uphold site safety standards and follow emergency response procedures as required
13. Support the development and delivery of training materials for internal and external use
Essential Skills & Experience
1. Multi-skilled Engineer with HND or equivalent qualification, or a completed time-served apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical engineering (electrical bias preferred)
2. Minimum 2 years' experience in an industrial engineering environment
3. Demonstrated experience in field service, maintenance, and technical support
4. Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach
5. Confident communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to build positive relationships with customers and colleagues
6. Full UK driving licence
7. Comfortable with travel and occasional overnight stays as business needs dictate
8. Team-oriented with the ability to work independently when required
Key Competencies
1. Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
2. Strong organisational and time-management skills
3. Proactive and adaptable, with a willingness to learn
4. Sound decision-making under pressure
5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Desirable Experience
1. Familiarity with biomass systems and steam boilers—especially servicing, fault repair, and fuel/feed systems
2. Basic knowledge of PLC control systems
3. Experience using computerised maintenance management systems
4. Understanding of compliance and certification standards
