Job Description
Does making the great outdoors your office sound fun and exciting? If so, look no further - Ingram Barge Company is looking to bring new hire deckhands onboard!
Note: These positions are located in our Port Allen, LA and Reserve, LA fleets. Job assignment depends on your location. These are fleet work positions requiring a schedule of 10/5 or 14/7, with the benefit of going home every night.
Important: This is not a liveaboard position. Applicants should live within 45 minutes of Port Allen or Reserve due to daily commuting requirements.
Responsibilities
1. Assist deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tightening ratchets, sweeping, and shoveling barges)
2. Perform daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping, cleaning crew quarters)
3. Assist with locking procedures
4. Carry rigging equipment (ratchets, wires, straps), pumps, hoses, and lines
5. Work outdoors in various weather conditions
6. Check barges for water and leaks, sometimes entering confined spaces
7. Maintain vessel appearance (washing, chipping, painting)
8. Assist the Engineer as needed
9. Practice safety protocols during crew, vessel, and tow operations
10. Participate in safety drills and audits
11. Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
1. Diploma or GED required
2. Valid Driver's License required
3. Reliable transportation to work
4. Ability to obtain a TWIC card
5. Pass background check, drug screen, and physical
6. Lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
7. Work in confined spaces, often entering through a manhole
8. Climb ladders and board/ride in a skiff
9. Read and write English to meet USCG requirements
10. Uphold Ingram's safety standards
11. Work away from home for extended periods (14, 21, or 28 days)
12. Work in a fast-paced environment, respond quickly to unexpected situations
13. Demonstrate critical thinking and decision-making skills
14. Work well in a team and accept diversity
15. Strong communication skills
