Who will you be working with?
We are seeking an experienced Production Engineer to join our team at Wabtec UK based in Burton on Trent. We support our customers through maintenance and operation optimisation with customised solutions for spare parts, repair, and overhaul activities on existing trains.

How will you make a difference?
The successful candidate will be a self‑starter who knows what success looks like and can drive for quick results. As the Production Engineer, you will use engineering fundamentals paired with advanced problem‑solving skills to identify and eliminate losses to improve factory performance. Focus areas will include safety, product quality, production outputs, cost, energy, and material savings. You will also have opportunities to lead projects including line modification.
What will your typical day look like?
* Serve as a key link between Operations and Engineering teams.
* Ensure correct interpretation of drawings and technical instructions, and lead communication of issues back to and with engineering to resolve them.
* Engage daily with shift operational team to understand production losses and issues, working with them to resolve.
* Use industry standard problem‑solving tools (Lean Manufacturing) to resolve issues.
* Use data analysis to understand production losses.
* Scope out projects to tackle production losses and lead them to resolve issues and lock in results.
* Support coaching of line operators in developed standards and equipment/line mastery.
* Support the tender and bid team with production hours and definitions.
* Support the operational excellence team with task profiles and order of tasks.
* Support the planning function in reviewing planned vs actual task hours and driving improvement actions.
* Act on production problems and AAW to provide clarity of instruction.
What do we want to know about you?
* Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree, HNC or HND.
* Formally qualified engineer, ideally with a background in mechanical and electrical disciplines.
* Previously worked in a fast‑paced changing environment with a large volume of AAW, whilst still striving to meet customer demand.
* Proven influencer who can get the best out of people and teams at all levels within the business.
* Prior knowledge of rail vehicles and associated systems is desirable, although not essential.
