Job responsibilities KEY RESULT AREAS: This role is a Reducing Restrictive Physical Intervention (RRPI) training manager, the post holder will be responsible for the effective design, delivery, risk assessment, implementation and evaluation of all physical intervention training and its theory components. Responsible for ensuing that RRPI training both mandatory and bespoke is in line with current legislation including the Mental inpatient use of Force Act and Common and criminal law, in addition to national guidance and local policy. Responsible for providing in reach work to offer advise on bespoke RRPI techniques tailored to the individual service and service user need trust wide. The post holder will be required to ensure the techniques are risk assessed to meet the needs of the person and evaluate and amend accordingly. Responsible for managing the RRPI agenda alongside the RRN agenda in designing, implementing and evaluating physical intervention training and theory programmes for mental health and learning disability. With expertise in theory components set be Restraint Reduction Network and the expertise on the techniques of Reducing restrictive physical interventions and least restrictive practices, the postholder will take a lead role in the RRPI department in representing the Trust in reducing restrictive physical interventions through therapeutic methods, both internally as well as externally where appropriate, and upholding and promoting the Trusts values and ethos. The post holder will be expected to manage the development of practice-based knowledge and skills in this specialist area and contribute to research and audit where required. To work alongside specialist advisors to inform and influence best practice within training linked to clinical practice feedback and will lead on quality improvement initiatives including culture impact and change. To identify areas that are working well and identify areas of improvement in delivery of training and within individual clinical services with evidence-based practice. Responsible for taking a lead role to identify and improve the quality of staff interventions using a solution focussed approach to improve staff and patient safety. To collate and coordinate data collection in respect of mandatory national reporting. To implement and action the requirements of local and national surveillance schemes, analysing data. To attend relevant meetings as directed, providing reports on the progress of surveillance and audit activity when requested. To be able to interpret data and escalate appropriately when indicated. To ensure compliance with relevant core standards and targets within local teams To ensure cost effective delivery of personal safety training To deliver effective training that supports personal safety training plans both with the training forum and within the clinical area offering bespoke training packages tailored to suit the needs of the service and or individual service users To support clinical teams in reducing frequency, severity and impact of violence and the use of restrictive interventions To lead the department in the absence of the Personal Safety and RRPI Lead and/or specialist advisors. Planning and auditing of the training calendar and ensuring sufficient training is planned Trust wide. Take the lead role in completing and conducting training need analysis to meet the need of the organisation working closely with learning and development and clinical areas. To keep update to date with new physical skills and theory packages to inform training and cascade to others. 1.1Care/service/function provision: To work within the South West Yorkshire Foundation Trust RRPI as a training manager, delivering excellent levels of RRPI training, and address or report, in a timely and proactive manner, where these standards have not been met. 1.2 Working as part of a Team: The post holder will manage, mentor, monitor and support the development of skill and knowledge RRPI Instructors and lead instructor through a peer support process. To deliver a range of training programmes on the Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression across all care services and all Trust sites. To assist the Specialist Advisors in promoting and delivering appropriate RRPI training to the Trust and local organisations as directed and ensure any trends in Datix can be delivered in training. To manage in the development of knowledge, ideas and working practice in RRPI. Measure and evaluate learning outcomes to include how learning is embedded in practice. To undertake assessments of participants on courses to ensure service user, staff and public safety. 1.3 Managing Self: Participate in clinical supervision to develop skills and knowledge of least restrictive practices and apply continuous reflection on own practice). Network with neighbouring Trust to keep update to with best evidence-based practice. 1.4 Management Supervision and Support: The post holder will be responsible for the development and supervision and mentoring of junior members of the team, ensuring junior members of staff are aligned to the RRN standards, The post holder will advise the specialist advisors and network lead of alternative RRPI techniques using the least restrictive ethos and trauma informed approaches. 1.5 Financial Responsibility : The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that training equipment/material are replenished and in working order these duties may be delegated by the post holder to the junior members of the team however the post holder will hold the responsibility.
