About the Role
Hellesdon Medical Practice has a fantastic opportunity for an advanced nurse practitioner to join our friendly nursing team to provide “on the day” appointments. This will be a part-time position, 3 days per week.
The advanced nurse practitioner will be responsible for attending to patients who wish to be seen by a health care professional, assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients presenting with undiagnosed and undifferentiated health problems. They will advise people in respect of their continuing medical and nursing needs. The advanced nurse practitioner will need to prioritise and triage the needs of patients accordingly making any necessary referrals for investigations in the appropriate manner.
The main responsibilities of the role include:
1. Ensure clinical practice is safe and effective and evidence based and remains within boundaries of competence and acknowledges their limitations.
2. Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments/minor injuries with referral to other members of the primary and secondary health care team as necessary.
3. Assist the senior nurse in providing daily support to the practice nurse team.
4. Provide general and specific health screenings to the practice patients (within agreed protocols).
About the Candidate All applicants should have the following qualifications, registrations, skills and experience:
5. A relevant nursing degree.
6. Current NMC registration with an active PIN.
7. Post-graduate diploma or degree for Advanced Practice Qualification.
8. Qualified independent nurse prescriber.
9. Fundamentals of Practice Nursing course (General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme) or equivalent experience or qualifications;
10. Competence to undertake asthma, COPD and diabetic clinics and reviews, holding relevant certificates.
11. Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, assisting with minor surgery, dressing and wound care, and recording spirometry.
12. Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work. The successful candidate will value the dignity of our patients, their relatives and carers, as well as their colleagues at the practice.
13. Knowledge, and experience of its application, in supporting long-term conditions.
14. Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS.
About Us
Hellesdon Medical Practice is a surgery with approximately 11,000 patients located in the northern area of Norwich. We are a well-established training practice, involved with GP registrars and Foundation 2 trainees. Our clinical team is made up of five GP partners, two of which are GP trainers, one salaried GP, one advanced nurse practitioner, three practice nurses and two health care assistants within the nursing team. We have a supportive administration team.
The position offers 6 weeks annual leave, and the salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
