Deputy Manager – Holiday Club (Neurokind Space, St Albans)
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS ONLY - STARTING OCTOBER 2025
Hours & Pay: 5 days a week (during school holidays), £17.00 per hour – competitive for this type of specialist, neurodivergent-focused role
About Us
Neurokind Space is a neurodivergent-led, child-focused organisation that celebrates autistic and neurodivergent joy. We provide safe, supportive, and playful spaces where children can thrive authentically. Our ethos is rooted in respect, co-regulation, and understanding – not compliance or behaviourist approaches. We actively encourage children to be themselves: to stim, to unmask, to play freely, and to find joy in their own way.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Deputy Manager to support the Manager in running our holiday club. This is a hands-on role that combines leadership with direct support. You'll help create an environment where neurodivergent children feel accepted, understood, and celebrated.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Manager with the day-to-day running of the holiday club.
* Plan and prepare activities that are inclusive, fun, and sensory-friendly.
* Contribute to and complete risk assessments for activities and the space.
* Directly support children in groups or 1:1, using co-regulation and neuro-affirming approaches.
* Welcome and check families in/out, building warm and supportive relationships.
* Record and respond to incidents, safeguarding concerns, and wellbeing notes appropriately.
* Notice and respond to early signs of dysregulation with calm, supportive strategies.
* Promote neurodivergent joy through play, creativity, sensory exploration, and celebration of individuality.
* Support with team coordination, ensuring staff understand and uphold our ethos.
* Keep records and contribute to ongoing evaluation of activities and support approaches.
About You
Essential:
* Experience working with children and young people (particularly neurodivergent).
* Understanding of sensory needs and how to create supportive environments.
* Comfortable with different communication styles (spoken, non-verbal, AAC, stimming, play).
* Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
* Ability to stay calm, supportive, and responsive under pressure.
* Alignment with our neuro-affirming ethos: child-led, co-regulation focused, supportive rather than compliance-driven.
Preferred:
* Lived experience of neurodivergence (self or within family/community).
* First Aid qualification.
* Safeguarding training.
* Experience in activity planning or group facilitation.
What We Offer
* A chance to work in a neurodivergent-led, values-driven organisation.
* Supportive team culture where lived experience and ideas are valued.
* Training and professional development in modern, neuro-affirming practices.
* The opportunity to make a real difference for neurodivergent children and families.
