About This Role
The School
Harrow School is situated in Harrow on the Hill in north‑west London. The School is located on a 324‑acre estate which encompasses much of Harrow on the Hill and is one of the best‑known schools in the world. Around 837 boys study at Harrow and live in the School’s twelve boarding houses. Employees particularly value the School’s beautiful green estate, the positive working environment, and good relationships with their colleagues.
The Department
The Economics and Business department is a thriving department, with excellent public examination results and a very large uptake of boys in the Sixth Form, being one of the most popular A‑Level departments.
The department is friendly, energetic and collaborative consisting of eight committed teachers who all share a love of their subject and work closely together sharing resources and ideas. Each year, approximately 50 boys apply to study Economics at prestigious universities both in the UK and in the USA.
One of the greatest strengths of the department is its super‑curricular offering. The Pigou Society, the School’s Economics and Business Society, is boy‑led and hosts guest speakers every term which have recently included Ha‑Joon Chang and Nobel Prize winner James Robinson.
The Role
You will lead the Economics department, including managing the department budget, hosting regular department meetings and being the line manager of the Head of Business and the rest of the department.
Your teaching skills will be required to teach A‑level to an exceptionally high standard and you will be responsible for the A‑level results of the department, as well as writing/updating schemes of work and teaching resources.
To support the boys’ extra‑curricular activities you will promote opportunities to join societies and participate in trips and competitions.
