To fabricate, assemble, and install high-integrity sheet metal components and systems including HVAC ducting and pipework in support of manufacturing operations for the nuclear industry. This role demands the highest levels of precision, safety compliance, and quality assurance due to the critical nature of the end applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings, technical specifications, and job sheets.
- Cut, bend, and shape sheet metal using manual and powered tools.
- Assemble ducting, pipework, and enclosures to strict tolerances.
- Perform TIG, MIG, and spot welding on stainless steel, mild steel, and other alloys as specified.
- Ensure welds meet quality and integrity requirements for nuclear-grade components.
- Conduct dimensional checks and surface finish inspections in accordance with ISO and nuclear industry standards.
- Complete fabrication and inspection documentation accurately.
- Adhere strictly to nuclear industry regulations, safety protocols, and site‑specific policies.
- Work closely with QA/QC inspectors, engineers, and project managers to ensure deliverables meet design intent and regulatory standards.
- Communicate any discrepancies or issues in a timely and constructive manner.
- Participate in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
Essential Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Sheet Metal Work, Fabrication & Welding, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in precision sheet metal work or pipework in a regulated industry (e.g. nuclear, aerospace, pharmaceutical).
- Proficient in TIG welding and fabrication techniques for stainless steel and carbon steels.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
