PRU Teaching Assistant – Greater Manchester Are you passionate about supporting young people who need a fresh start in education? Leader Education is recruiting Teaching Assistants to work within Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) across Greater Manchester. These settings support students who may have been excluded from mainstream education, helping them re-engage with learning, build confidence, and develop positive behaviours for the future. The Role This is a full-time (Monday–Friday), long-term position supporting students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs and behavioural challenges in alternative provision settings. You will: Provide 1:1 and small group support, both academically and emotionally Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement Support students in managing emotions and regulating behaviour Assist teachers in delivering structured and engaging lessons Implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies Help create a safe, consistent, and supportive learning environment Support the development of social skills, resilience, and independence Students you work with may present with SEMH needs, ADHD, Autism (ASC), trauma-related behaviours, or barriers to learning. Ideal Candidate This role would suit someone who is: Calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations Passionate about supporting young people with behavioural or emotional needs Confident in building strong relationships and boundaries Adaptable, proactive, and consistent in their approach Committed to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing Relevant backgrounds include: Youth work Care or residential support Behaviour mentoring Sports coaching Mental health support roles Psychology graduates Previous experience in schools or alternative provision is beneficial but not essential.
