Swanwick School & Sports College is an ‘Outstanding’ school providing an exciting and relevant education for young people with additional needs including Moderate and Severe Learning needs, Challenging Behaviour and ASD.

The Governors are looking for an exceptional Classroom Practitioner who will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality PE and a rich programme of enrichment across the school. The faculty lead will play a significant role, under the line management of a member of the senior leadership team, in establishing the aims and objectives of the faculty to reflect the ethos of the school and in implementing appropriate policies and procedures to ensure these objectives are achieved. The successful candidate will also oversee the teaching of PE and Enrichment by other SSSC staff. Whilst PE will form the majority of the teaching commitment, we are also interested in staff who are able to teach English, Maths and potentially ICT. Although this position will primarily involve teaching pupils of secondary age, applications from both primary and secondary practitioners are welcomed. The successful candidate will be someone who can create and deliver stimulating lessons, have excellent assessment for learning strategies and know how to support pupils’ next steps in learning. The successful applicant will also promote the school ethos through high levels of expectation, excellent behaviour management skills, being an adaptable team player and able to encourage pupil independence. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to use ICT in an innovative and imaginative manner throughout the curriculum. Applicants should be able to demonstrate and support our school vision of ‘Enjoy, Achieve, Exceed’.

The successful candidate will:

* Be a positive, proactive and reflective practitioner, confident in working within a special school setting. They will take a lead role in PE, champion enrichment opportunities, and support a curriculum that is engaging, inclusive and responsive to pupils’ needs.
* Be passionate about supporting young people to help them remove barriers to learning.
* Be able to build effective and supportive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and other agencies in order to secure the best life chances for our pupils.
* Be organised, proactive and creative in developing successful intervention strategies for vulnerable pupils.
* Be someone who can create and deliver stimulating lessons, have excellent assessment for learning strategies, and know how to support pupils’ next steps in learning.
* Able to promote the school ethos through high levels of expectation, excellent behaviour management skills, being an adaptable team player and able to encourage pupil independence.
* Be able to demonstrate the ability to use ICT in an innovative and imaginative manner throughout the curriculum.
* Have a clear understanding of thematic curriculum delivery.

We invite applications from both Early Career Teachers and more experienced teachers. Although the post involves working with key stage 3/4 pupils, we invite primary trained staff to apply due to the curriculum provided.

We offer:

* A shared moral commitment to secure the best outcomes for all pupils.
* An opportunity to work with talented and committed staff.
* A wonderfully diverse range of pupils who are keen to learn and participate in the life of the school.
* A committed Governing Body and supportive parents/carers.
* Access to the Schools Advisory Service.

As this post involves a great deal of contact with pupils, staff, visitors and parents, it is important that candidates possess excellent communication skills; maintaining confidentiality at all times will be essential.

Swanwick School and Sports College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children and young people and we expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment; we fully support the principles and practice of the publication "Keeping Children Safe in Education".
