About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Protection & Control Design Engineer to join our Power Transmission & Distribution business based in Newcastle or Leeds.
Role Purpose:
* To provide project leadership as Project Design Lead for the design delivery of electrical substation projects from tendering to project handover.
* Perform and lead the design delivery for electrical substation projects up to 400kV with the assistance of Design Engineers.
What you'll be doing
On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for:
* Ensuring all duties comply with Company Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental Procedures, and BMS;
* Meeting or exceeding safety, quality, programme, and budget requirements for allocated projects;
* Delivering and leading Protection & Control Systems design for substations;
* Enacting CDAE role and responsibilities in line with NG TP188 and applicable standards (if appointed);
* Orchestrating Customer Witness Tests at the factory for Protection & Control Systems;
* Representing the Department at project meetings and liaising with stakeholders;
* Maintaining interfaces during the project lifecycle;
* Reviewing estimates and post-tender requirements upon contract award;
* Preparing Project Status Reports (PSR) and managing scope changes and deviations;
* Liaising with Project Managers, customers, suppliers, and other departments;
* Establishing design content and resources to meet project timelines;
* Preparing instructions for materials and tools required on site;
* Specifying test certificates and manuals as per specifications;
* Ensuring compliance with relevant standards and legislation;
* Leading design work with regard to Health, Safety & Environmental Procedures.
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
* HND or higher in Electrical Engineering;
* Extensive HV substation P&C design experience;
* Knowledge of substation design delivery for clients like National Grid or SSE;
* Experience in project coordination, estimating, scope management, and reporting;
* Familiarity with quality assurance and business processes;
* Integrity, professionalism, teamwork, and customer focus;
* Experience working in a BIM environment is desirable.
