As Compliance Investigator you will join Ofgem’s Compliance team within Delivery & Schemes undertaking varied and meaningful work across renewable energy schemes, consumer protection, supplier resilience and regulatory enforcement. The role involves investigating and analysing qualitative and quantitative evidence, managing compliance or enforcement cases, and making clear, well-reasoned recommendations to manage risk and address harm. You will work collaboratively with policy, legal, communications and operational colleagues, and engage confidently with external stakeholders including energy suppliers, government departments and industry bodies.
You will bring demonstrable experience of collecting, investigating and analysing both qualitative and quantitative data to support robust, evidence-based conclusions and recommendations. This may include examining complex datasets, assessing compliance against regulatory or policy frameworks, triangulating multiple sources of evidence, and clearly identifying risks, issues and opportunities. You will be confident exercising professional judgement, knowing when to elevate concerns, and ensuring your analysis stands up to scrutiny.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. You will be able to distil complex, technical or sensitive issues into clear, concise messages tailored to non-expert audiences, including senior colleagues, external stakeholders and consumers. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to proactively plan, prioritise and manage competing demands. You will take ownership of your workload, adapt plans as priorities shift, and consistently deliver high-quality outputs to agreed deadlines while maintaining attention to detail. Finally, you will have a proven ability to build effective working relationships and positively influence a wide range of stakeholders, including those who may be resistant or challenging. You will approach stakeholder engagement with professionalism and empathy, using credibility, evidence and clear reasoning to achieve constructive outcomes in the interests of consumers.
This combination of analytical capability, communication skill, delivery focus and stakeholder management is critical to supporting Ofgem’s work in protecting consumers and enabling a fairer, greener energy system.
