Job Description
The After School Supervisor’s role is including, but not limited to, the following:
1. Look after any Nursery and Reception children who are staying after school from 3.30pm until they are collected; Look after any Pre-Prep pupils from 3.45pm until they are collected; Look after any Prep pupils from 5pm until they are collected.
2. Administer a light snack to children during this time (no preparation needed);
3. Play games, engage with children, read with them, talk to them and generally provide a safe, relaxing and enjoyable after school care experience;
4. Recommend resources for purchase;
5. Ensure pupils are signed out by parents in an accurate manner and parents are treated courteously;
6. Ensure pupils are signed in / collected for After School Care in a safe and timely manner;
7. Take responsibility for the pastoral care of each pupil in After School Care for this time and pass on relevant information to other staff to ensure safety and wellbeing;
8. Read communications from the school and respond as appropriate;
9. Undertake or maintain required levels of training;
10. Be aware of any medical problems; to fill in an accident report form as required if present at the time of an accident, ensuring that parents / staff are informed;
11. Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school;
12. Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues
13. To be aware of key school policies especially those related to safeguarding, supervision, first aid, health & safety, emergency procedures, anti-bullying and behaviour.
14. Participate in the school’s appraisal system
The Teaching Assistant’s role is including, but not limited to, the following:
15. Work with the direction of class teachers, as per the timetable, whilst using a large amount
of initiative, independence and proactive behaviour.
16. Maintain excellent communication with class teachers.
17. In the absence of the class teacher, to maintain the class register and / or cover a class.
18. Be flexible and work across other classes and year groups as directed, and at short notice if
required and to undertake extra duties as required.
19. Tidy and keep classrooms in good order, maintaining high standards of hygiene.
20. Maintain a friendly but professional relationship with parents, ensuring that the class
teacher is made aware of any concerns or queries.
21. Ensure familiarity with key school policies, including ‘Behaviour’, ‘Safeguarding & Child
Protection’, ‘Supervision’ and Anti-Bullying’. Ensure policies are followed at all times.
22. Supervise children at concerts, events, trips, playground duties etc as required.
23. Undertake appropriate external INSET and report back to colleagues; suggest ideas to
colleagues for the classroom.
24. Undertake regular safeguarding and other mandatory training as directed.
25. Participate in Staff Development through Appraisal and Supervision meetings.
26. Support the school in the community.
