The Trust faced a number of challenges in delivering cancer access standards. The creation of a Cancer Services Care Group with dedicated leadership has enabled the Trust to focus on achieving these standards and developing strategies to deliver excellent services to its populations. This approach has already resulted in significant improvements over the past year, and the care group continues to develop strategies to sustain this progress.

The Haematology department provides comprehensive clinical and laboratory services for patients across East Kent. Inpatients for haematology and haemophilia are centralized at Kent and Canterbury Hospital. Nineteen subspecialized outpatient clinics are held weekly across all four sites.

This is a full-time (10 PA) post.

1. Provide inpatient and outpatient care as appropriate, including conducting three haemato-oncology clinics per week at Kent and Canterbury Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital at Margate. Additionally, attend the lymphadenopathy cause clinic on a 1 in 6 basis. Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team ward rounds, a 1 in 6 ward attending rota, and on-call rota. Support is provided by a full middle grade on-call rota for Haem-oncology and coagulation teams.
2. Maintain responsibility for patient care, including all administrative duties related to patient management.
3. Interpret haematological laboratory tests and advise clinical colleagues accordingly.
4. Conduct clinical practice adhering to high ethical and clinical governance standards.
5. Support other clinical specialties as needed.
6. Participate in clinical audits, departmental governance activities, and activities supporting appraisal and revalidation.
7. Attend multidisciplinary team and clinical governance meetings regularly.
8. The post-holder may be required to undertake other duties appropriate for a consultant haematologist.
