Job Title: Early Careers Skills Coach - Mechanical Fitter

Location: Barrow-In-Furness; Cumbria: Working hours are 7:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Thursday, and 7:30am to 12:30pm on Fridays

Salary: £43,509 - £46,702 depending on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

Deliver high-quality learning, coaching and assessment that inspires learners to reach their potential and develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to progress within the business

Design and deliver engaging, blended learning activities that promote vocational excellence and encourage innovation, creativity and problem-solving

Provide tailored coaching, support and challenge to help learners stay motivated, overcome barriers and succeed throughout their learning journey

Assess and monitor learner progress and performance in line with relevant standards and regulatory requirements to ensure occupational competence

Set clear, achievable objectives and conduct regular progress reviews to track development and drive continuous improvement

Engage in ongoing professional development to ensure delivery remains current, impactful and aligned with best practice

Your skills and experiences:

Qualified Mechanical Fitter with relevant industry experience

Effective coaching and mentoring skills to guide and support learners throughout their development

Proven people skills, particularly in managing welfare, support and safeguarding concerns with professionalism and care

Assessor qualification (e.g. A1, TAQA or equivalent)

Experience working in a submarine or defence-related environment

Competent IT skills, with the ability to use digital systems for learning, assessment and communication

The Early Careers Team:

You will join a dynamic and supportive team of professionals who are passionate about developing the next generation of Mechanical Fitters. The role involves assessing apprentices throughout their programme while also contributing to a range of early careers activities such as interviews, inductions and careers events. This is a rewarding opportunity to directly influence and shape young learners futures, helping them build solid foundations for successful careers. If you are not already a qualified assessor, full support will be provided to gain the relevant qualification. Working hours are 7:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Thursday, and 7:30am to 12:30pm on Fridays, offering a great work–life balance.
