What You’ll Be Doing:
* Supervising and conducting analysis and experiments to support system qualification.
* Driving the progression of design optimization.
* Producing and reviewing radiological safety justifications for proposed design solutions.
* Leading the development of in-house toolsets to meet departmental goals.
* Overseeing detailed shield design, balancing build requirements with system performance needs.
Your Skills and Experiences:
* Relevant STEM degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Nuclear Engineering.
* Demonstrable experience with radiation transport codes such as MCNP, MCBEND, or Attilla.
* Strong understanding of radiation physics.
* Experience in radiation safety studies and behaviors.
* Knowledge of radiation metrology.
* Familiarity with the ALARP principle.
Desirable:
* Experience managing technical projects.

The Radiation Physics & Shielding Team:
Our team is at the forefront of designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet. We engage across three submarine programs at various engineering lifecycle stages, focusing on:
* Designing new shields
* Providing design change assessments
* Conducting radiation metrology on-board during commissioning
In addition to our primary work, we conduct radiological safety studies, design innovative radiation detectors, and develop capabilities in radiation damage to electronics. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates across all submarine roles.
