Teaching Assistant - PRU (Alternative Provision) Location: Chesterfield Role: Teaching Assistant - PRU / Alternative Provision Start Date: ASAP / Ongoing Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only About the Role We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist alternative provision setting supporting pupils who are unable to access mainstream education. This role is ideal for someone with experience working with young people who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, challenging behaviour, and barriers to learning. You will play a key role in helping students re-engage with education by supporting both their academic progress and emotional development within a structured and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs Support students who may be disengaged from education or at risk of exclusion Assist in delivering individualised learning programmes tailored to each pupil Implement behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques Support emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills development Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to support outcomes Promote a safe, structured, and consistent learning environment Encourage positive behaviour, engagement, and attendance Essential Requirements Experience working within a PRU, alternative provision, or SEMH setting (desirable) Strong behaviour management skills and ability to build relationships quickly Confidence in supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and emotional needs Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach Strong communication and teamwork skills Desirable Team Teach, PRICE, or similar de-escalation training Experience supporting pupils who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion Background in youth work, mentoring, care, or alternative education Understanding of trauma-informed approaches or restorative practices What's on Offer Opportunities to develop your skills and enhance your CPD Access to ongoing training, including safeguarding Supportive and collaborative working environment Competitive pay rates with holiday pay included Referral scheme available Important Information This role is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
