What you'll do as a Senior Stress Engineer:
Mechanical Engineering is a fundamental element of all our products.
Your role as a Senior Stress Engineer will be primarily to support product designs that are in-service or being developed for customers by providing the necessary structural verification that demonstrates compliance against customer and/or regulatory specifications. You will communicate key aspects of results and findings to project teams and the company airworthiness authority, and technically advise on all stress engineering activities. This involves working with multi-disciplinary teams, interfacing with internal and external customers, and liaising closely with engineers from various disciplines.
Typically, you will:
1. Assess mechanical designs for strength, durability (fatigue), performance, and safety against requirements using methodologies like finite element techniques and classical hand calculations.
2. Provide guidance on structural design improvements related to sustainability and manufacturing considerations.
3. Recommend component or sub-assembly optimizations, such as mass reduction and part count reduction.
4. Support the selection of manufacturing technologies and materials, understanding principles like statics, dynamics, and failure mechanisms.
5. Support all structural aspects of product development from concept to testing and certification.
What we need from you:
1. A degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering with postgraduate experience in stress & vibration engineering.
2. Chartered Engineer recognition or related competencies is desirable.
3. Experience in electronics packaging or aerospace systems design, development, and testing is advantageous.
4. Knowledge of structural analysis and experience with extreme environment equipment, complying with RTCA DO160 and MIL-STD-810.
5. Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA), preferably Siemens Simcenter & Nastran, and fundamentals of load balancing and classical calculations.
6. Experience with environmental testing methods and post-processing for verification is highly desirable.
7. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
8. Ability to work independently within a team environment.
