Job Title: Project Engineer
Salary: £70,000
Location: Sheffield
Shift: Days hours per week
Ready to lead some of the largest capital projects this site has seen in years?
Our client, a leading heavy industry manufacturer, is investing significantly in its Sheffield operation — including a 7-ton press forge installation and new melt furnace projects. They are now hiring a Project engineer to take technical ownership of these high-value CAPEX programmes and deliver them safely, on time, and to specification.
This is a newly created Project engineer role, designed to bring strong project leadership and deep technical capability back into the business after a number of years without projects of this scale. If you're a hands-on engineer who thrives in heavy industry and wants real accountability, this is a standout opportunity.
What you'll be doing: Project Engineer
• Leading the technical delivery of a 7-ton press forge installation project from scope definition through to commissioning
• Driving the installation of new melt furnaces, ensuring full compliance with machinery directive and site safety standards
• Developing clear technical scope documents and detailed project programmes
• Creating and reviewing AutoCAD/SolidWorks drawings to support installation and layout changes
• Conducting full risk assessments and ensuring LOLER, PUWER and L8 compliance
• Managing budgets, cost justifications and project reporting to senior leadership and board level
• Taking an 80% hands-on technical role, with 20% coordination of contractors and specialist vendors
• Ensuring minimal disruption to production during installation and commissioning
This Project engineer position is highly visible and central to the site's future capability.
What we're looking for: Project Engineer
• Proven experience delivering £1m+ CAPEX projects within heavy industry
• Strong background in manufacturing environments such as forging, furnaces, hydraulic presses or similar
• Confident balancing technical detail with structured project leadership
• Experience using Microsoft Project (or equivalent) and AutoCAD/SolidWorks
• Strong understanding of machinery directive, machine safety and industrial compliance standards
• IOSH qualification preferred
• Engineering degree desirable
• PMI, PRINCE2 or similar project management certification advantageous
This Project engineer must be equally strong technically and in stakeholder management — able to get hands-on with engineering challenges while confidently presenting progress to directors.
What's on offer:
• Salary: £70,000
• Company bonus scheme
• Pension matched (+1%) up to 8%
• Private healthcare
• Employee assistance programme
• Retail discounts
• Free on-site parking
• Long-term investment projects offering genuine ownership and impact
