We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor to provide one-to-one support within a welcoming four-form entry junior school in Rugby, rated Good by Ofsted. This full-time role involves supporting two pupils across different year groups who require additional emotional and behavioural support throughout the school day. The position offers an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working within a supportive school environment with a strong SEN team and experienced leadership.
Role
You will provide tailored one-to-one support for two pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
* In the mornings, you will support a Year 3 pupil with SEMH and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), helping them with emotional regulation, engagement, and successful reintegration into the classroom environment.
* In the afternoons, you will work with a Year 5 pupil with SEMH needs, supporting behaviour, learning engagement, and positive classroom participation.
The role will involve working both inside and outside of the classroom, including supporting outdoor learning and play activities where appropriate.
Responsibilities
* Provide one-to-one support across Year 3 and Year 5
* Support pupils with SEMH and PDA needs using consistent and positive strategies
* Assist with emotional regulation, classroom engagement, and behaviour support
* Build strong, trusting, and supportive relationships with pupils
* Support learning activities both within the classroom and through outdoor learning opportunities
* Work collaboratively with class teachers, the SENCO, and wider support staff
Ideal Candidate
* Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or relevant experience
* Previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs
* Understanding of PDA strategies and/or trauma-informed approaches
* Calm, patient, and resilient in a one-to-one support role
* Strong communication, relationship-building, and behaviour management skills
* Team Teach or behaviour management training is highly desirable
