We are recruiting a Lead Senior Drainage Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team in Bristol.

The Opportunity
National Highways, formerly Highways England, has named Amey Consulting as a Design partner to support the delivery of the largest and most comprehensive renewals programme ever launched. The £3.6bn Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) enables National Highways to procure Design and Construction services across the Strategic Road Network for 6 years.
The Role
As a Lead Senior Drainage Engineer, you will manage the design and delivery of projects on the Highways account. The role covers a wide range of mainly small and medium sized projects, with some larger projects included. Your focus will be on drainage design using Causeway Flow and on developing in‑house drainage team capabilities. Experience with Causeway Flow is highly preferable.
Responsibilities
* Lead a team to produce technically sound highways engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
* Prepare and check designs in accordance with DMRB and other national design codes, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy quality, cost and programme criteria.
* Oversee the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and take responsibility for their actions.
* Take responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within the portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables.
* Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries, etc.
* Contribute significantly to the preparation of bids and the general work‑winning function.
* Assume the role of people manager when required by the business.
* Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
What You Will Bring To Us
* Developed drainage design experience and expertise within the Highways Civil Engineering field, gained in an Engineer role or equivalent.
* Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions, including highways drainage, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members.
* Experience in undertaking project‑related tasks associated with the management of health, safety and welfare (e.g., Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations).
* Capability to act as Engineering Design Lead for a larger project where required.
* Very good working knowledge of relevant software and analytical tools, in particular Causeway Flow.
* Demonstrated commercial awareness.
* Good understanding of CDM and risk assessment; substantial experience in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects, and ability to act as Principal Designer where appropriate.
* Successful completion of either the professional review or end‑point assessment, resulting in the award of Incorporated or Chartered status, or an equivalent professional licence.
* Incorporated or Chartered status, or an equivalent professional licence gained through the professional institution to which the individual is aligned.
