What does the role involve?

The Contract Manager will play a vital role in supporting our commercial activities, ensuring compliance and smooth operation across various projects. Your key responsibilities will include:

Sweco is currently engaged in a variety of commissions providing transportation, infrastructure, energy and environmental services to a wide array of clients via our multi-disciplinary teams. The value and risk profile of such operations require a dedicated Contract Manager to oversee the contractual & commercial operations of our project managers, engineers and administrators to ensure we are providing optimal services to our clients (including design & build tier 1 contractors) whilst maximising the value of our professional services agreements.

The Contract Manager will report to the Commercial Director and be expected to primarily support business winning and post contract commercial requirements of Sweco’s Infrastructure & Environment Division (operational commercial management and contract governance). This is an opportunity to join a company within an established consultancy that has a €2 billion turnover across Europe.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Conduct Level 2 commercial audits to assess the efficacy and compliance of ongoing projects with internal and external processes. Identify areas for improvement and report findings.
2. Support the critical Governance function as assurance Reviewer to ensure thorough tender assessment and compliance with the WinBusiness Process. Address potential risks and support contract negotiations.
3. Support the execution of commercial assurance reviews for projects. Ensure all contractual obligations are met and contribute to the project's success by providing insightful commercial evaluations and forecasts.
4. Promote the Commercial function including supporting the as the Commercial Hub knowledge base, coordinating updates, offering training, templates, discussion and driving consistent application of best practices across the Division.
5. Assist in contract administration including NEC3/4 and other contractual agreements. Provide support to Sweco PMs to ensure all parties understand their responsibilities and adhere to the terms and conditions stipulated.
6. Commercial lead of major projects, frameworks and strategic bids
7. Contractor/Subcontract Governance: manage the supply chain and our clients with appropriate escalation routes to efficiently resolve issues and disputes. Ensure contractual compliance at all times in this regard.
8. Financial Control & Reporting: provide analysis and reporting on project cashflow, costs and profitability to Sweco senior management.
9. Procurement: responding to procurement requests and letting contracts in-line with programme requirements.
10. Develop AI tools for the Commercial function

Requirements:

To be successful in this role you’ll possess:

11. Hold a degree in engineering, procurement, surveying or related field
12. Minimum 3 years experience in a related field
13. Good working knowledge and experience with forms of contracts within the engineering and/or construction sectors.
14. NEC experience preferred
15. Have ambition and drive to develop their skillset
16. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to adjust your style to suit your audience.
17. Ability to do occasional travel away from home (1 to 2 nights every month) throughout the UK.
18. Membership with a UK recognised appropriate professional body would be desirable but not mandatory i.e. RICS, CICES, CIPS etc.
19. Demonstrate confidence in their tasks
20. Possess attention to detail
21. Strong/advanced Excel skills
22. Are highly organized with strong time management skills
23. Are output and results-focused
24. Set and drive the standard/culture of the new division
25. Promise and deliver
26. Set achievable targets
