Job Overview
We are seeking a part‑time Social Worker (Grade 9) to join the Jigsaw Team – Children with Disabilities – within Southampton City Council Children and Learning Service. The role will work 23–26 hours per week (commonly 26 hours Tuesday‑Friday or 23 hours Wednesday‑Friday) on a permanent contract. The position is part of an aligned service that includes Social Care, Health, and Paediatric Occupational Therapy to provide coordinated assessment, holistic care planning and therapeutic intervention for children and young people with multiple or complex disabilities, and additional needs, including preparation for adulthood.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver child and young person centred services, conducting regular visits, assessments and planning.
* Build and nurture meaningful relationships with children, families and agencies.
* Interpret and act on the wishes of children, advocating and supporting them to reach their full potential.
* Work within a relational practice framework, supporting permanence and safety for children.
* Collaborate with domestic abuse workers, safeguarding teams, substance use workers and mental health practitioners to provide holistic care.
* Engage in reflective practice, motivational interviewing, and systemic learning to improve service delivery.
* Participate in regular supervision and case‑management meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
* Diploma or Degree in social work and registration with Social Work England.
* Statutory social work experience, especially with Children with Disabilities and Looked‑After Children.
* Clear understanding of relevant legislation, current practice and safeguarding issues.
* Experience in trauma‑informed, compassionate care and evidence‑based practice.
* Reflective, assured, and confident approach to practice.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trust with families and agencies.
Salary and Benefits
Salary: £41,771 – £46,141 per annum pro‑rata (starting at £41,771), with annual progression through the band.
