Works Manager – Environment

Scottish Borders / Lockerbie

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Works Manager to join Galliford Try’s Environment Business, working on our Scottish Water Frameworks in our Joint Venture, ESD. This role offers hands-on experience across a variety of projects in the Water Industry — from wastewater treatment to clean water infrastructure.

Based in the Lockerbie area, you’ll be part of a team planning and delivering high value Scottish Water projects, with opportunities to travel to multiple sites across the region.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Delivery/Contract Manager you will be responsible for the day to day running of Projects alongside the Project Manager and Project Team to deliver;

1. A safe working site
2. Programme compilation/updates with planners
3. Review of designs prior to construction
4. Site checks of construction
5. Liaison with the commercial team
6. Client facing site meetings and Microsoft Teams calls
7. Compilation of inspection and test plans
8. Compilation and checking/updating of project management plans
9. Compilation and checking/updating of environmental plans
10. Managing a skilled and highly motivated Civils Team, dealing with daily and forever changing challenges in the workplace on multiple sites and liaising with clients and divisions within Galliford Try to support the teams to deliver projects on time / on budget and to required standards.
11. Ordering and purchasing of materials and logistical planning.
12. Daily briefings, RAMS and control measures to be put into place so the Teams work safely and efficiently.
13. Guiding the business in an integrated and collaborative manner through the civils phase of projects.

Experience and Qualifications:

14. A proven track record in the civil engineering industry - Reinforced concrete, Deep drainage, Earth removal etc.
15. Management experience Dealing with Operational Teams at all levels.
16. Preferred experience on Scottish Water, Environment Agency or similar
17. Preferred qualifications - NVQ in civil engineering, SMSTS, First Aid, Street works supervisor, full and clean UK driving licence.
