We are working with a local authority client seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join their team on a temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with strong knowledge of housing standards and enforcement within the private rental sector.
The role will initially be office-based at Bernard Weatherill House, with site inspections across the borough. Once established, hybrid working may be considered, with a minimum of 3 days per week in Croydon.
Your new role
Conduct inspections and take statutory action relating to private sector dwellings, including Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), ensuringpliance with housing standards.
Manage the full licensing process for privately rented properties and HMOs, including inspections, application checks, issuing licences, and monitoringpliance.
Provide advice and guidance to landlords, tenants, managing agents, and other stakeholders on housing legislation and standards.
Take enforcement action where necessary, including issuing financial penalties and pursuing prosecutions for nonpliance with legal responsibilities.
What you'll need to succeed
Previous experience as an Environmental Health Officer within housing enforcement.
Strong knowledge of housing legislation and HMO licensing.
Ability to carry out inspections and manage enforcement processes effectively.
Access to a private vehicle is highly desirable due to travel requirements across the borough.
What you'll get in return
You will join an established team on a 3-month rolling contract working hours per day, Monday to Friday. The council will offer £25–£30 per hour (Umbrella)
