We are recruiting for a Welfare Rights Officer, based within the Income Maximisation Unit of the Finance Department. The post will be located in our Lambpit Street office with significant home working. The welfare rights team supports a wide range of clients including people with disabilities, carers, and vulnerable families. While we are ideally seeking an experienced welfare rights officer we would also welcome applications from candidates with significant experience of supporting families or people with disabilities and a working knowledge of the benefits system.
This post is initially funded until 31st March 2027 but may be extended.
You must be able to:
* Work effectively with clients including those who may find it difficult to engage with services.
* Identify potential benefit entitlement including better‑off calculations and assist clients with claims.
* Be able to advocate effectively for clients including representing at appeal tribunals.
* Work to AQS Quality Mark standards.
* Understand the importance of welfare rights work and the role of the Welfare Rights Team within the Council.
* Have experience of providing support to a range of client groups.
* Be able to provide advice in a variety of settings: telephone, internet, office and home visiting.
* Work as part of a team.
