Defra group Commercial is looking to appoint an Assistant Commercial Officer to the Monitoring And Related Services (MARS) commercial team within our Environmental Goods and Services spend category. This will be a key support role for the team, which could also include leading your own procurements. Part of Defra, the central Government Department responsible for growing the rural economy, improving the environment, and safeguarding animal and plant health, DGC provides a commercial service to organisations within the Defra Network. The role requires assisting customers and commercial teams to deliver value effectively and innovatively, meeting customer outcomes and Spending Review targets.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist in awarding and monitoring supplier contracts in accordance with Defra's commercial policies and procedures.
2. Deliver value for money while applying the Commercial DNA principles.
3. Review and interpret requests from internal customers, advising on commercial policies and procedures.
4. Engage with colleagues across the country, building the Commercial network internally and across the wider Defra network and Government Bodies.
5. Support the delivery of low- to medium-value projects within the environmental science field.
6. Play a pivotal role in achieving efficient procurement processes and enhanced customer service.
7. Support and assist in project delivery, procurements, and contract/supplier management.
8. Explain Commercial guidance to operational teams to ensure compliance with policies and legislation.
9. Maintain effective relationships with operational teams and customers.
10. Manage own resources to meet business needs, including electronic sourcing and contract management applications.
11. Support the development of sub-category and category plans and develop market knowledge.
12. Provide administrative support to the team and support contract management activities.
13. Research and analyse information to support sourcing strategies and business plans.
14. Participate in meetings and support commercial colleagues as required.
15. Monitor and ensure accuracy of data in commercial and contract management IT systems.
16. Pursue continuous professional development to enhance commercial skills and knowledge.
