Principal Stress Engineer
About the Role
A leading defence and aerospace organisation is expanding its Mechanical Analysis capability and is seeking an experienced Principal Stress Engineer. This role will play a key part in guiding the structural design and development of a next-generation complex weapon platform.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across multiple UK sites to define and deliver advanced structural solutions for high-performance aerospace systems.
The Opportunity
The Mechanical Analysis Group underpins the structural and thermal performance of the organisation’s military systems portfolio. The team contributes throughout the full product lifecycle—from early concept studies and detailed design to manufacturing support and in-service investigations.
This position offers the chance to work across a wide range of structural analysis disciplines, including:
* Classical hand calculations
* CAE modelling: Static, Dynamic, Fatigue, Aeroelastics, Non-Linear, Impact, Kinematic
* Qualification & design testing
* Fault investigation & loads derivation

Candidate Experience
We’re looking for someone who can lead complex analysis activities with confidence and clarity. Ideally, you will bring:
* A degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline, or equivalent substantial experience
* Proven experience delivering structural analysis work packages using hand calculations and CAE tools (Hyperworks desirable)
* Strong capability in producing and presenting detailed technical reports to varied stakeholders, including senior leadership
* A proactive approach to improving methods, tools and processes
* Ability to mentor and support junior engineers
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
* Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
* Experience with composite stress analysis (desirable)
* Willingness to pursue DV clearance (advantageous)
