Plant Breeding Manager – Pharmaceutical Applications

Walker Cole International is supporting a client in the pharmaceutical sector seeking a Plant Breeding Manager to lead and develop its specialist breeding program. This role offers a unique opportunity to innovate at the intersection of plant science and pharmaceutical development, focusing on enhancing medicinal plant varieties.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and implement plant breeding strategies targeting traits such as alkaloid content, yield, and disease resistance.
2. Develop and maintain plant clones; oversee clone strategy, viability, and assessment.
3. Coordinate field and greenhouse trials to evaluate breeding line performance.
4. Apply classical and molecular breeding techniques, including marker-assisted selection and tissue culture.
5. Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical quality standards and regulatory documentation requirements.
6. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in R&D and regulatory affairs.
7. Communicate results and strategic updates to stakeholders and external bodies.
About You:
1. MSc or PhD in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Agronomy, or related fields.
2. At least 5 years of practical plant breeding experience, including 2 years in leadership roles.
3. Strong understanding of medicinal plants and phytochemistry.
4. Familiarity with GMP, GACP, and international pharmaceutical and agricultural regulations.
5. Proficiency in data analysis, project management, and cross-functional collaboration.
6. Experience with medicinal crops.
7. Background in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
8. Knowledge of EMA, FDA, or WHO frameworks for botanical ingredients.
