Interim accountant - local government

Qualifications

• Fully qualified member of a professional accounting body such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent.
• Experience working in the accounting and finance function of Council / Local Government.
• Problem solving mindset, with a strong drive for best practice.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: half and full‑year‑end accounts preparation; audit liaison, project management and query resolutions; preparation of monthly management accounts and forecasts; financial reporting under CIPFA Code of Practice, IFRS and NAO Code of Practice; finance process improvement; reconciliation and remediation of accounting data.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare half and full‑year‑end accounts.
• Act as audit liaison and manage project queries.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and forecasts.
• Produce financial reports in accordance with CIPFA Code of Practice, IFRS and NAO Code of Practice.
• Improve finance processes.
• Reconcile and remediate accounting data.

Contract Terms

• Independent contractor with flexible assignment terms (full or part‑time, short‑ to medium‑term).
• Assignments within public sector (Local Government, NHS, other public bodies) with potential private sector opportunities.
