Offer description

Are you a recent graduate passionate about supporting students and making a real impact in education?
Do you see yourself pursuing a career in speech & language therapy, SEN support, or educational psychology and want meaningful, long-term experience in a specialist setting?

Step Into Teaching is supporting a fantastic school in the Dorking area (RH5) to recruit a Graduate Student Welfare Practitioner to join their team. This is a great opportunity at a supportive school, offering real progression and stability.

The school offers specialist education with integrated therapeutic support for students aged 7–19 with a range of special educational needs — including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and social communication or anxiety-related difficulties.

This is a brilliant opportunity to:

* Build a long‑term career in a supportive and inclusive SEN school
* Work closely with experienced teachers and therapists
* Help students grow in confidence and independence, both academically and personally
* Gain consistent, high‑quality experience to prepare you for future training or further study
* Opportunities to support across interventions, therapy sessions and admin within specialist teams

Within this role, you’ll support pupils in accessing the curriculum, developing social skills, and overcoming barriers to learning. You’ll play a key part in fostering a respectful, positive, and person‑centred classroom culture.

We’re looking for someone who is:

* A recent psychology (or related) graduate (degree 2:2 or above)
* Supportive, empathetic, and approachable
* Resilient, reflective, and motivated to make a difference
* Committed to working in education long‑term
* Interested in SEN, mental health, and inclusive learning

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential - the school provides training and values a proactive, team‑focused attitude.

What you’ll gain from this role:

* Ongoing professional development and SEN training
* Deep understanding of autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and social communication needs
* Opportunity to progress within a specialist SEN environment
* A role with consistent hours 35hrs per week

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Mon‑Fri - Term Time Only for the 25/26 academic year, scope to continue into 26/27

If you're ready to make a long-term impact and want to grow your career in SEN education, we’d love to hear from you today!
