About the role
We’ve got an exciting opportunity to join our Wastewater Networks team at Northumbrian Water, helping to protect the environment and improve the service we deliver to our customers every day.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in the effective operation and maintenance of the sewerage network, leading investigations that reduce sewer flooding, prevent pollution incidents and tackle other network challenges. If you’re passionate about making a real environmental difference, we’d love to hear from you.
You’ll carry out detailed network investigations, identifying root causes of issues and seeing your recommendations through to delivery, helping to strengthen and future‑proof the sewer network. You’ll also be our face in the field, working directly with customers across the operating region. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, so you’ll keep them informed and supported, using a variety of communication methods to manage expectations and build trust.
Achieving industry‑leading environmental compliance relies on strong collaboration. You’ll work closely with internal teams as well as external partners including the Environment Agency, Local Authorities and contractors, taking part in site investigations and meetings to deliver the best outcomes.
You’ll produce clear, accurate reports based on site findings, often working to tight deadlines. You’ll also present investigation findings and data to key business stakeholders, helping inform decisions and drive improvement across the network.
At Northumbrian Water, you’ll be part of a team that’s passionate about the environment, proud of its impact, and committed to delivering excellent service for customers and communities.
About you
We’re looking for a candidate who can demonstrate proven experience of delivering excellent customer service within a customer‑focused environment. You’ll have experience of working in line with Health and Safety procedures and, ideally, a sound understanding of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, such as those relating to customers, finance, health and safety, quality and environmental compliance.
You’ll be a strong team player, with experience of involving and supporting others in problem‑solving and decision‑making processes. You’ll be confident in building and maintaining effective working relationships, with the ability to network successfully across all areas of the business and with external stakeholders.
You’ll also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, supported by strong literacy, numeracy and analytical abilities. You’ll be an effective problem solver with an innovative mindset, able to identify opportunities to improve ways of working and help drive positive change.
In addition, you’ll hold a qualification to BTEC or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a science, engineering, construction or environmental‑related discipline, or be able to demonstrate equivalent practical experience gained through relevant employment.
