The Service for Complex Assessment of Neurodevelopment (SCAN) previously known as the Social Development Clinic (SDC) is based at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Harrington Building and provides specialist assessment of highly complex presentations of neurodevelopmental conditions for children and young people aged 3 to 18 years.
SCAN takes a whole‑person, holistic approach, considering developmental and learning needs, the environment and experiences at home, school, and community, and any genetic or physical health factors that might play a part.
The service is for children who still need answers after local assessments, and who may have unresolved diagnostic questions or require a tailored support plan. It is a tier 4 service reviewing cases that have not been concluded by local CAMHS or paediatric services due to complex factors.

* Provide specialist occupational therapy assessment in line with the service overview.
* Contribute to highly complex case reviews, clinical formulation, and decision‑making as part of the multidisciplinary team.
* Support governance activity including performance monitoring, data quality, audit, service evaluation, and improvement initiatives.
* Attend multidisciplinary team meetings, with clinical assessment days run collectively on Thursdays.
* Work flexibly across the week, ensuring availability on most Thursdays.
Working conditions
Work can be scheduled flexibly across the week but requires presence on the majority of Thursdays as clinical assessment days take place on that day.
