About the Role The newly created Financial Controller role is critical in delivering robust financial control, statutory compliance, and high-quality reporting for a UK business unit and separate legal entity, while also developing strong commercial capability through close partnership with Senior Finance Managers and stakeholders in the wider business. The role requires clear and insightful communication of business performance, ability to inform commercial decision-making, and strategic thinking alongside traditional controllership responsibilities. Job Opportunity Own delivery of month-end close activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency. Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations with clear supporting documentation. Produce high-quality management accounts with insightful commentary and supporting analysis. Support preparation of statutory accounts, in accordance with UK GAAP, and manage external audit processes. Review/critique prepared VAT returns and support corporation tax processes. Maintain cash flow forecasts and support treasury activities. Ensure ongoing compliance with Companies Act and regulatory requirements. Partner with Finance Managers to support budgeting, forecasting, and performance reviews. Contribute to variance analysis, identifying drivers, risks, and opportunities. Build and maintain financial models for business cases and investment appraisals. Provide constructive financial challenge to operational stakeholders. Build effective working relationships with senior non-finance stakeholders. Translate financial outcomes into clear, practical insights. Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting quality. Work closely with the new CFO on projects. Post qualification experience of at least 3 years with management responsibilities. Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills. Ability to communicate financial information clearly and confidently to both financially literate and non-financially literate stakeholders. Demonstrable capability for insightful and value-adding data mining Commercially curious and outcome oriented. Comfortable challenging assumptions with evidence. Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture. Resilient, adaptable, and eager to learn.
