We are seeking a Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), which is part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.
Responsibilities
* Lead the ECU and manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer. Provide strong leadership, motivate and develop the team, and manage performance and work delivery.
* Be the strategic lead for how we manage financial investigations and ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Work collaboratively with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC). Influence senior-level stakeholders to support and recognise the Environment Agency’s priorities.
* Contribute to the wider organisation by improving ways of working, increasing understanding of POCA legislation, sharing lessons learned, contributing to technical documentation, and advising other enforcement officers nationwide.
* Support the two ECU teams as part of a nationally dispersed unit dealing with serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.
Experience / Skills / Qualifications
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team. Strong understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act.
* Experience in:
* Working in the law enforcement sector with understanding of the National Intelligence Model
* Effective communication including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders
* Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it
Team and Context
* The Economic Crime Unit is made up of two teams—the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team—and includes Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and collaborates with enforcement staff and partners across the country to address serious and complex criminality.
Additional Information
* Hybrid working from home and a nearest office; travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. Incident response is a central part of the role, with the possibility of additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments are available.
