Job Title: System Architect – Defence (SIL Documentation)
Location: North West / South West - England.
Clearance Required: Active SC Clearance (must be in place)

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled System Architect with demonstrable experience working within the UK Defence sector. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of system-level design and documentation and be particularly proficient in supporting and producing Safety Integrity Level (SIL) documentation. You will play a key role in ensuring robust, compliant, and secure systems architecture across mission-critical platforms.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design and development of system architectures for complex defence platforms.
* Produce and review SIL-related documentation to meet required safety and security standards.
* Work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams, including software, hardware, safety, and systems engineers.
* Support system-level analysis, modelling, and simulation activities to validate architecture decisions.
* Ensure compliance with relevant defence standards, including DEF-STANs, ISO 26262, or IEC 61508 as appropriate.
* Provide technical leadership throughout the system development lifecycle, from concept through to validation and verification.
* Engage with stakeholders, including safety and regulatory bodies, to ensure architecture aligns with safety case development.
* Contribute to system-level safety arguments and participate in safety assessments and audits.
* Produce technical reports, specifications, interface control documents, and design justifications.
Required Experience & Skills
* Active SC Clearance (essential – candidates without this will not be considered).
* Proven experience as a System Architect within Defence, Aerospace, or Safety-Critical Engineering domains.
* Hands-on experience with SIL (Safety Integrity Level) documentation, ideally within projects aligned with IEC 61508, ISO 26262, or DEF-STAN 00-056.
* Strong understanding of system engineering principles (requirements management, traceability, V-model).
* Experience with MBSE tools such as IBM DOORS, Enterprise Architect, Cameo, or similar.
* Familiarity with embedded systems, avionics, or maritime systems is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions across disciplines.
* Chartered Engineer status.
* Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Exposure to safety case development or functional safety processes.
* Experience with defence-specific environments such as sonar, radar, C4ISR, or weapons systems.
