Overview
PDP Transport Development Planning Officer. This is a Professional Development Programme (PDP) position within Surrey County Council’s Transport Development Planning Team. The role provides a formal career development opportunity with a structured training and development offer. The starting salary is 33,553 per annum for 36 hours per week, with a pay grade span of PS7 – PS9 (33,553 – 45,135); there is an opportunity to progress as experience grows. Two PDP Transport Development Planning Officers are being recruited.
Responsibilities
* Advise Local Planning Authorities on the transport impacts of development proposals.
* Promote sustainable development, maintain and improve road safety, minimise traffic generation, and maximise the shift towards sustainable travel modes.
* Assess transport implications of developments and respond to Planning Application consultations independently by the end of the PDP.
* Review Transport Assessments and negotiate with developers; draft and coordinate legal agreements with developers under Sections 38 and 278 of the Highways Act.
* Work within the Planning and Placemaking Service; contribute to assessing development proposals for compliance with national planning policy and impact on the transport network.
Shortlisting Criteria
* Degree in a relevant subject (geography, town planning, civil engineering, transportation planning, or equivalent) or equivalent transport planning experience.
* Good written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation.
* Good IT skills.
* Good problem solving ability.
* Team player, flexible, adaptable, and able to work under pressure.
* Interest in, or knowledge of, relevant highway and planning technical matters.
Requirements & Travel
Surrey has both urban and rural areas; a valid UK driving licence, access to a vehicle, and willingness to travel across a wide geographical area are expected. Reasonable adjustments will be made for applicants with a disability or long-term health condition where needed.
