Here at GXO Logistics, were looking for a Transport First Line Shift Manager to join our team at B&Qs Preston Brook Customer Distribution Centre (CDC). This is a critical leadership role where you will take full accountability for the safe, compliant and efficient running of the transport operation during your shift - while also leading key people processes, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring exceptional service to both internal and external customers.
This is a full-time, permanent position. You will work Tuesday to Saturday, 09:00 19:00, however flexibility will be essential at peak times, this is logistics after all!

Youll be paid a salary of up to £37,000 per annum. What youll do on a typical day:
Lead the transport operation during your shift, ensuring safety, service, cost and people KPIs are consistently achieved while upholding transport compliance and legal standards
Conduct key people management activities including 11s, absence reviews, performance management discussions and supporting HR investigations
Oversee Health & Safety and transport audits, drive corrective actions, and ensure the operation remains fully compliant
Manage customer escalations and complaints arising from a high volume of weekly deliveries, carrying out investigations and implementing service improvements
Use multiple computer systems daily, producing accurate reports and resource plans using spreadsheets and operational data
Plan next-day transport resources, ensuring effective driver and vehicle allocation, and lead team briefs to align colleagues with operational priorities
Support accident management processes, maintain high standards of transport compliance, and communicate clearly with senior leaders and the client
What you need to succeed at GXO:
Demonstrable experience within a similar role, experience supervising a team and an operational understanding of a fast-paced transport environment, including a deep understanding of transport legislation, compliance requirements and best practice
Strong HR and people management capability, including experience with absence, performance, conduct and investigations
Confident in managing customer escalations and service issues, with a professional and solutions-focused approach
Ability to lead from the front, take ownership and remain resilient under pressure
Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities
