Document Controller Location: Bristol Sector: Construction / Fit-Out / Refurbishment The Opportunity I’m recruiting on behalf of a well-established construction contractor who deliver a wide range of projects across commercial, industrial, and specialist sectors (including secure environments, cleanrooms, laboratories, and high-spec refurbishments). They are looking to appoint a Document Controller to join their team, ideally based in Bristol. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills and construction document management experience to take ownership of project information control and ensure smooth communication across multiple teams. Role & Responsibilities * Manage and maintain project documentation using electronic document management systems (EDMS) * Set up document registers and ensure consistent naming conventions across all files * Control the flow of information between internal teams, subcontractors, and clients * Track and monitor drawing revisions, technical submissions, RFIs, and approvals * Ensure document version control procedures are followed at all times * Support project managers and site teams with document queries and requirements * Produce reports and document status updates for the wider project team * Assist in implementing and improving document control processes and standards Candidate Profile Essential: * Previous UK experience in a Document Controller role within construction (main contractor or consultancy) * Strong organisational and administration skills with high attention to detail * Proficient in using document control software/EDMS (e.g. Viewpoint, Asite, 4Projects, Aconex, or similar) * Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word * Clear communicator with ability to work with colleagues at all levels * Ability to prioritise workload and manage deadlines across multiple projects Desirable: * Experience supporting fit-out, refurbishment, or defence/secure projects * Familiarity with ISO standards and QA documentation requirements * Knowledge of BIM processes and file management standards * Willingness to travel occasionally to support project sites outside Bristol What’s on Offer * Competitive salary (commensurate with experience) * Long-term career opportunities with a busy and growing contractor * Involvement in technically challenging, high-spec projects across varied sectors * Supportive working environment with a strong emphasis on quality, ethics, and professional development How to Apply If you have experience in document control within construction and are looking to join a contractor with a strong project pipeline, please apply with your CV or call Dan at Sphere on (phone number removed)
