Role

Senior Electronics Engineer - B7

You will normally work 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Although much of your work will be in the Medical Devices Unit office, you may also be required to travel to attend off-site meetings and events.

Responsibilities

This is a highly rewarding role that provides opportunities for varied and challenging work as a Senior Electronics Engineer for the Medical Devices Unit (MDU), a multi-disciplinary clinical engineering team supporting innovation projects to improve patient diagnosis, treatment and care. MDU staff also provide equipment repair, maintenance and calibration services.

The successful candidate will design, develop and prototype medical electronic systems to deliver innovative and cost-effective healthcare solutions as part of wider initiatives which focus on translational research and the development of collaborative projects between NHSGGC, academia and industry. This will be done under an ISO 13485 QMS. You will also contribute to the running and improvement of the electronics calibration service for medical test and diagnostic equipment in compliance with an ISO 55001 certified QMS.

You will be the lead electronics engineer within a small team of electronic engineers delivering a range of complex and cost-effective design and research projects for hospital and healthcare systems. You will undertake and support research and pre-production development work. You will lead electronic circuit design and development - contributing at every stage of design, development and testing of new and enhanced products.

You will contribute to research and innovation and be familiar with new technology in electronic engineering design and development. You will be part of the team that turns research ideas and early concepts into industry standard designs at the cutting edge of medical device development. You will be committed, energetic, self-motivated and be able to demonstrate the following attributes: You will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to take a creative approach for generating new ideas. You will have a sound knowledge of electronic design software (circuit design, circuit simulation, PCB layout design and circuit debugging). You will have skills in surface-mount soldering, SMT prototyping and debugging. You will have an excellent grasp of electronic engineering design principles. You will have a background that includes both hardware (design, development, prototyping, testing and repair), FPGA’s and embedded software, as well as knowledge of calibration procedure development tools. Self-motivated and with good team-working skills, you will also be able to demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills.
