Overview
We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a full time Clinical Support Worker to join the Royal Blackburn Hospital, Speech and Language Therapy team. This combined role includes clinical and administrative tasks to support the RBH Speech and Language Therapy team. You will assist in the preparation and delivery of therapy treatment sessions, group therapy sessions, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, and a variety of administrative tasks that support the clinical day-to-day running of the therapy team. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate, preferably with experience in healthcare, who may wish to develop clinical skills while working with patients with a wide range of clinical conditions.
You will work flexibly across the Head and Neck SLT team, the Inpatient SLT team and the Voice SLT team, as part of the Speech and Language Therapy team, providing clinical and administrative support for clinicians and assistant staff to ensure the smooth running of clinical services.
Responsibilities
* Assist with the preparation and delivery of therapy treatment sessions, including 1-1 and group sessions.
* Stock management, equipment servicing and practical skills, infection control, and storeroom management.
* Daily management of patient information and data input/output on relevant electronic patient systems (including patient blood results where appropriate).
* Administrative tasks such as photocopying, filing, processing correspondence, and handling staff and patient inquiries.
* Support with deliveries of equipment, report faults, and complete work requisitions.
* Maintain day-to-day cleanliness and tidiness of service areas; work under the guidance of registered clinicians and/or assistant staff.
* Assist with environment preparation for meetings and training, and support clinical services for example, clinic preparation, patient groups, and preparing patients for therapeutic intervention (including virtual/online sessions).
* Inputting or collating data for service evaluation purposes and undertaking general administrative duties to support the clinical teams.
Requirements and Qualifications
* Experience in a healthcare setting preferred; ability to develop clinical skills in working with patients with diverse clinical conditions.
* Willingness to work flexibly within the SLT teams and to perform both clinical and administrative tasks.
* Commitment to infection control, health and safety, and maintaining appropriate standards in treatment areas and equipment.
* Ability to use electronic patient systems and handle patient information securely and confidentially.
* Good communication skills and ability to liaise with other departments, services, and agencies; capable of assisting visitors and handling enquiries.

Additional responsibilities include assisting in collating monthly infection prevention and control audits, monitoring stock levels and ordering stock equipment for patients, maintaining treatment areas and equipment to an appropriate standard in accordance with health and safety and infection control guidance, and supporting the delivery of clinical services in preparation for meetings and training.
Support for clinical services includes clinic preparation, patient groups, preparing patients for therapeutic intervention (including virtual/online sessions), and inputting or collating data for service evaluation. You will support the delivery of assessments and treatments under the supervision of registered clinicians and/or assistant practitioners, and assist in delivering rehab programme treatment plans where appropriate. You may also arrange interpreters as required and participate in team meetings.
Communication and Training
Assist with visitors entering the service, answer telephone calls, and ensure accurate messages are conveyed. Liaise with other departments/services/agencies and manage emails and actions. Support clinical staff gathering information from patients and relatives, and participate in team meetings. Take part in regular supervision and share knowledge with other staff and students.
Organisational Responsibilities
Participate in team and service improvement and governance activity, assist with staff induction, and support delivery of service and organisational objectives. Be able to deal sensitively with complaints following procedures and direct them to the appropriate person. Maintain written or electronic clinical documentation in line with policies, legislation and guidance.
