About the role:
Based at our West Suffolk Operational Hub (WSOH) on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds, we have a vacancy for a Waste and Street Scene Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day work of our frontline staff. You may also be required to work at our other operational depots in Haverhill and Mildenhall to meet the needs of the service.
The primary function of this role is to organise and manage the day-to-day work of the waste collection service.
You will be responsible for managing elements of a large team focusing on your own specialism but working across a larger team in order to deliver high quality services. You will need experience of working in a high-pressured environment, be highly organised and be able to prioritise tasks. A good working knowledge of Microsoft packages and other 'in house' electronic systems and hardware will also be required. You will be required to demonstrate previous supervisory or management experience and provide examples of successful outcomes. Ideally, you will also have experience of dealing with the public, customers and working in a team environment. You will also need to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
What you will need:
This is a key front-line role, and you will need to demonstrate an ability to lead and develop staff, prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and achieve results. You will also need to demonstrate a solid understanding of health and safety policies and procedures. You will need a flexible approach as these roles' role may also include working some weekends and public holidays. Actual working hours will be agreed against the requirements of the service during operational hours.
You will hold a minimum of a Class 'B' driving licence, as a company vehicle will be made available to enable you to cover your service area.
Our work is constantly changing and successful collaboration across a wider team is key to the success of the role. Training and support will be provided and there is plenty of scope for progression through an annual performance review scheme upon completion of a six months' probation period.
Why work for us? Our benefits include:
* annual leave entitlement of 25 days per annum (pro rata if part time) plus bank holidays, increasing to 29 days plus bank holidays after 5 years' service (with an option to buy up to an additional 10 days annual leave each year subject to approval)
* a generous pension scheme (LGPS) including life assurance (a payment of three times your annual salary)
* access to a unique employee benefits package which includes discounts and cashback on supermarkets, high street shops, holidays, mobile phones, electrical goods, savings and loan schemes and many other products and services
* Salary sacrifice benefits including Cycle to Work scheme, Tusker Leased Car Scheme and SmartTech (buy the latest tech products interest free and spread the cost over your salary).
* Rail and bus staff discounts
* a range of Health and Wellbeing initiatives including an employee assistance programme
* discounted membership at Abbeycroft Leisure centres
* a culture of learning inspiring staff to focus on continuous learning
