Location: Bradford/ Leeds - Hybrid Working (a mix of office and home working)
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday between the working window of 8:00am-6:00pm.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Energy Metering Specialist to join the Energy Team within the wider Commercial Services team at Yorkshire Water.

The Energy team play a key role in the company’s energy needs and costs, Yorkshire Water is supplied through over 4,500 gas and electricity meters across Yorkshire. Energy costs are a significant proportion of the company’s Opex therefore being able to conduct our site operations and report on energy performance is dependent on a maintaining a well-managed meter portfolio.
Where you fit in –
Utilising an understanding of energy industry regulation and practice, you will work with internal teams and industry third parties to support a wide range of business objectives. Key to delivering energy strategy objectives will be the ability to project manage a number of key programmes relating to industry metering requirements and the delivery of our exciting site renewables programme.
You will manage project risks, timing, cost and quality in line with business targets, whilst ensuring health and safety, regulatory, and statutory compliance is achieved.
You will take a lead on improving the provision of metering services by being the single point of contact on all aspects of meter management, related projects and queries from the business. To facilitate the roll out of our new Energy Strategy, the Energy Metering Specialist will develop solutions to serve both future business needs and incorporate the pressures of changing industry regulation and the demands of our expanding portfolio of renewable assets.
You will also be responsible for day to day meter management, responding to queries from Capital teams, Operational teams and Land and Property Services. You will work with industry third parties such as our Broker, Energy Supplier, Meter Operator and DNO to resolve queries and support our capital programme.
What skills and qualifications you will need:
• Previous experience within the energy and utilities industry and experience of energy regulatory processes and working with energy suppliers, meter operators, DNO’s.
• Excellent IT skills, proficient user of all MS Office Applications and excel
• Project management experience and experience of using project management tools
• Strong organisational skills, the ability to manage and organise heavy workloads, prioritising relevant business needs. Good attention to detail.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to understand and liaise with others, this could be colleagues, managers and external contractors
• Able to be resilient under pressure and is self-reliant with a personal drive for continuous development, demonstrating a strong customer service ethos
The role will involve travel to different sites across Yorkshire, therefore you will need a UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 1-2 days in the office per week. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours.
