Responsibilities
* Communicates, understands and interprets complex and sensitive test information to managers, consultants, nurses, other healthcare colleagues, patients and patient carers. Answers all complex telephone inquiries from pathology users, patients and patient carers about test results and provides information as lead expert. Explains anomalies to pathology users when results do not agree with clinical presentation and writes policies to lower risk factors.
* Accountable for service delivery including emergency, on call training, for urgent and routine work and specialised work achieving stated turnaround times in line with Trust and Service policies. Responsible for complex specialist analytical equipment on a daily basis and authorises fitness for clinical use. Ensures efficient use of expensive tests and high value analysers. Plans rotas to run test procedures on a range of specialist methodologies on a daily basis to include calibration and quality control testing.
* Responsible for fault finding on specialist analysers after formal training from manufacturers. Delivers formal training on specialist analysers to staff in their service. Develops, writes, authorises and implements policies in their specialist area. Proposes and implements changes that will improve and develop the service for external clinical users.
